Exhibition Research
For my final project, I will need to present my work for an exhibition. I looked at the work presented around my college for inspiration of how to present my work. I also looked at my presentation boards from last year to ponder how I can improve them.
Looking back at my boards last year, I don’t like them too much. They worked, but I think they could have been much cleaner with boarders and making the board colours all the same to keep them closer linked. I drew my own font to place the names in the top left and added the colour palette and game logo in the bottom right corner. This looks really messy to me now with how the colour palette size changes between each board and the logo was not the best. So I think for this project, I will take from last year that less is more, and keep the presentation boards limited to what I plan to put on them all. I have 5 presentation board I will be planning for. 2 of the boards will be full body character portraits while 3 will be for the storyboards.

I really like how the characters for these presentation boards have been cut out to be their own unique shapes. It helps the boards stand out a lot more and gives and interesting flare to the presentation.

This exhibition board does the same with their characters, giving them a small boarder to keep them sticking out from the background. So I am going to do that for both my characters for my presentation boards, as it will give them a unique feel to them.

Looking at boards that represented games at Rezzed, they are large, stick to a limited but eye catching colour palette and make sure that characters asociated with the game are on display. The characters are also in stance of sorts and not just standing still with their arms by their sides- this helps showcase the character’s individual personality through the drawing.
From the presentation boards I’ve seen, I will use the idea of having the two characters I plan to create for my project stand out with vibrant colours and in some sort on interesting stance which draws the eye. I like I idea from looking at my classmates’ presentation boards of cutting the characters out so they have a small border around them which helps them stand out from the wall, as well as free up some more space for the storyboards I will need to add.
I experimented with a handful of ideas for how my boards would work together. My first idea was to have all 3 boards lined up together so the narrative is quick and easy to follow in one look. The character designs would then be above and below the storyboards, as I feel having one either side horizontally would make the whole display way too long. My idea after that was to instead display the storyboards in a pyramid shape with the characters either side of the final page. This presentation style I like a lot more than the previous one as it feels a little more dynamic than the previous idea just being a line.
I then thought of two more odd ideas. Next was the idea to have the storyboard pages in a line again, but have the characters on opposite corners, with maybe the images overlapping the storyboards ever so slightly. While I do like this idea, I think it takes up a lot of space, and while the slight overlap may be unique, It also has the risk of covering the look of the storyboard. The final presentation idea is for the storyboards to be in a line, with a fair amount of space in between them, and for the character designs to poke through those spaces. It was an interesting idea in my mind but after I made the template of it in Photoshop, I think it looks pretty messy, so I will not be choosing that one anytime soon.
Overall, while I really like the unique idea of the 3rd presentation template, I think the 2nd one is much more pleasing and neater to the eye, and will showcase my work best
With now the realisation of having to extend my work to 4 storyboards instead of 3, this will change up presentation arrangement. Taking my original idea of the pyramid shape for my previous chosen template, I adapted that idea with an extra storyboard. This time I put the first page top and centre, with the next three pages below it. The character designs will then sit on each side of the 1st page. This keeps my work neatly packed together in an eye catching format.
