Project Management and Dev Log

Week Number & Date: 7 – 16/12/19

List of Tasks planned for this week: To begin progress on my final product.

Current Position – I have my final board sketched out and have done the final outlines on the more simpler sections of the work.

  • What did I do this week and why did I do it?

I started off with deciding to sketch out what I was going to put on the board so I can resize and fit everything on without it looking badly crowded or too sparse. I first sketched out a drawing for my character, which I plan to duplicate and have 3 of on the board. I wanted to draw my character in a slightly more interesting stance than standing still but something simple so you can view what he looks like all over with ease. My first sketch was okay, but I wasn’t happy with the angle of the legs and something about the head shape did not sit well with me, so i started again; keeping the rough idea of him holding out his cybernetic arm in a luring manner. So I restated, angled the body slightly and came out with a sketch I felt a lot happier with. The angled heading adding a better level of threat associated with the character as he’s looking down in an intimidating glance.

Once I was happy with the sketch, I chose another colour to sketch on the first layer of clothing. Then I duplicated the sketch, drew the second layer in a different colour, and did the same again.

After adding the clothing layers, I planned out where to place the enlarge brand, cybernetic arm and character bio. Now with a rough idea on how I’m going to display my final piece, I got to work with outlining and colouring the brand and arm, as they wouldn’t take too long compared to the character himself.

I roughly worked out the look of the brand through a better sketch, finalised what it looked like, then placed it on the face of the character effectively before adding colour to finish it off

I then did the same with the arm; outlining the cybernetic arm before colouring it a head of time.

  • What did I find difficult or easy?

I I was difficult and took ages to sketch out a stance for my character that i was happy to continue further with. It was time consuming to design the brand, but once I finished it once, I could duplicate and modify it to fit what else I needed it for, so it was not too bad.

  • What tasks didn’t I complete from this week?

I am on track with the tasks I have set myself for each week, I even got a head start with outlining the assets around the character earlier than I expected too.

Planning for next week –

  • How do I plan to catch up?

I will get to finalising the outline for the character drawings, which will take a while to do neatly and make sure no lines overlap poorly.

  • Do I need to change anything about my work or planning?

I do not need to change anything about my work or planning.

Week Number & Date: 7 – 23/12/19

List of Tasks planned for this week: To outline the three drawings of my villain and get a decent amount of colouring done.

Current Position – I have outlined all of my drawings, have placed the brand on them all and have the first 2 coloured.

  • What did I do this week and why did I do it?

Now I moved onto the outlining and colouring of the full design drawings. I used a new layer to make the final outline for the left drawing. Once done I duplicated it, moved it over to the middle and added the next layer of clothing, then repeated that again for the right drawing. With the black outlines all done, I duplicated, angled and resized the brand and fitted it on the face of my villain.

With the brand in place, I went to my previous colour ideas piece to bring over the colour pallet I had made, so I can easily put in place the colours I chose to use without hassle.

I selected the first drawing with the magic wand tool, created under layers for his skin, eyes, hair and each piece of clothing to colour them and keep it neat without them overlapping each other.

Then proceeded to use these same steps with the middle drawing. This took a lot more time than the first due to more colours and making sure none of the colours bled somewhere they weren’t suppose too and for example his glove has some very small sections and details on it so I needed to be a little more delicate when filling it in.

  • What did I find difficult or easy?

The outlining was tricky due to having to make sure all the lines were neat and connected well. I had to look over the outlines very carefully multiple times to find the smallest gaps and fix them so I could effectively use the magic wand tool for cleaner colouring. The colouring itself is a little time consuming too, making none of the colours overlap where they shouldn’t and keeping it looking clean too.

  • What tasks didn’t I complete from this week?

I didn’t colour in the final drawing, though I expected that with how long it took to outline and colour one to a neatness I was happy with and as it goes further right, the design has more to work with so colouring will take longer. So that will be my first priority next week

Planning for next week –

  • How do I plan to catch up?

I will colour in the final drawing of this piece and add the final touches to the piece.

  • Do I need to change anything about my work or planning?

I do not need to change anything about my work or planning.

Week Number & Date: 7 – 30/12/19

List of Tasks planned for this week: To finish off my colouring and add the final little details to the piece.

Current Position – I have everything coloured as well as the character and game name added.

  • What did I do this week and why did I do it?

My priority was to colour the final design of my villain before anything else. This took longer than the second version of my due to more layers of clothing with more colours that I needed to separate on more layers and prevent from bleeding into each other. After some time and patience, I had my villain fully coloured.

I’ve really enjoyed designing the mask for this character and wanted to include it on the board. As I had a lot of time; I shuffled around the placing for each part of the board to make room for a separate mask drawing, so you can view what the whole mask looked like, as half of it was hidden due to the angle of the villain’s head. So I sketched a front view of the mask and drew the ear piece of the mask next to it too.

Then proceeded to outline, colour and add it to the display. Along with the added mask, I placed the viallin’s name in the top left, and game name in the bottom right. All that was left to add was a short paragraph for a character bio.

  • What did I find difficult or easy?

The design of the mask was a little tedious to colour, especially the ‘X’ over the eye. With it being so thin I had to really take my time with colouring the inside of it and keeping it within the lines. The separate mask was fun to draw and not a problem to add.

  • What tasks didn’t I complete from this week?

As I took time to draw and add the separate look at the mask, I didn’t add the character bio, but I think that will be very quick and simple to add next week.

Planning for next week –

  • How do I plan to catch up?

I will finish off my piece with writing out a simple charcater bio for Sal.

  • Do I need to change anything about my work or planning?

I do not need to change anything about my work or planning

Week Number & Date: 7 – 6/01/20

List of Tasks planned for this week: To add a character bio for my villain then finish off my development log.

Current Position – My final piece is now done and development log complete

  • What did I do this week and why did I do it?

I took time to write a short and simple bio for Sal to add to the piece. I decided to write a simple amount that explains the basics about him, but not much so he still stays fairly vague and mysterious, which I personally believe is what you want with a villain in any form of media.

With my final piece now done; I moved onto fleshing out my development log and adding the screenshots I have taken throughout this process. With my development log now all done and up to date, I will now move onto my final evaluation.

  • What did I find difficult or easy?

It took a little time and some attempts to write a character bio that fitted in the space I had on my presentation board. Taking time to write up my development log took a while but wasn’t necessarily difficult.

  • What tasks didn’t I complete from this week?

I have completed my final piece as a whole

Planning for next week –

  • How do I plan to catch up?

I shall move onto writing up my final evaluation.

  • Do I need to change anything about my work or planning?

I do not need to change anything about my work or planning.
