Reflection

  • How has your research influenced the planning and creation of your promotional materials including your UCAS Personal Statement?

My planning and creation was influenced by looking at other portfolio examples for inspiration on how to organise mine. Separating the art pieces into categories was very common across portfolios. Keeping them in sections regarding if they were traditional, digital, stylised, realistic, inspired or personal. This stuck with me to neatly organise my pieces when forging my portfolio and what works I should be thinking of adding to it. My research didn’t influence anything for my UCAS statement though. As I am not going to university, I did not need it.

  • Reflect on your learning and skills – What you have done and why you have done it?

I have done research on multiple portfolio sites and with what I learnt, planned out how to structure my own portfolio. I chose how to organise my projects on my portfolio thanks to my research. I had a lot of traditional work to put on my portfolio so decided it would be best to balance it out by putting my focus on making a fair amount of digital work to help show I can work effectively with both.

  • Sum up your ongoing evaluations/opinions/reflections that you documented during the project.

During the progress of making my portfolio I was fairly nervous throughout the beginning. I have always been quite timid about showcasing my artwork , but as I planned out the presentation of my portfolio and chose out what works I was happy with to present, my confidence did perk up and I slowly felt better about presenting my work to a professional standard. I was really proud of many pieces I chose to implement into my portfolio as well as very pleased with art work I made to add to my portfolio. I am proud of the current state of my portfolio and feel inspired to add to it within time. I do not feel in much a rush to fill it; as I am not going to university I do not need to hurry at add work to it to show it to them, so I can keep at my own pace to make sure I am happy with my pieces that I will be adding over time.

  • What Promotional work do you feel has worked well and what did not work well? What could you do to improve your work?

I feel my digital pieces I made for my portfolio were really well done. With how much last year I was not fond of digital art, I am especially proud of my piece of Mollymauk, with the added detail and shading. I took hours to finish up but I am really pleased with the turn out, so I feel inspired to try out a few more drawings with a lot more focus put towards them.

  • Reflect on peer and tutor feedback.

I did not receive too much feedback regarding my portfolio expect to keep adding to it when I can with more pieces. Especially to try and add more environmental pieces to showcase more skills with Photoshop. I took the feedback for making more digital pieces as my first priority as it is what I need a lot of practice with most. As characters and creatures are my strong suit, I chose to focus on digital works around that before working on environment pieces to add later on, once I feel more comfortable using photoshop for drawing.

  • What have you learnt during this project?

I have learnt how to use what I learnt from research to help prepare for presenting my work in a professional manner. My work has been neatly organised with picked out art pieces I am happy to display. I have also learnt how to present my work and add captions to add little detail for what I am showcasing.
